UFC 166's bonuses were handed out in the amount of $60,000. Gilbert Melendez and Diego Sanchez took home Fight of the Night, John Dodson won Knockout of the Night for his win over Darrell Montague, and Tony Ferguson won Submission of the Night for his D'Arce choke finish of Mike Rio.
- The UFC announced its 20 Days to UFC 167 Tour in celebration of the promotion's twentieth anniversary. The tour will begin in Denver, Colorado, the site of the first UFC. The tour will include several past and current UFC competitors, including Georges St-Pierre and Chuck Liddell, and will feature fan, media and sponsor events as well as a global scavenger hunt conducted via social media. The tour will lead up to UFC 167, which is headlined by Georges St-Pierre and Johny Hendricks. In the press release promoting the tour, UFC president Dana White explained the tour further.
"We built an incredible card for our 20th anniversary and now we're hitting the road to celebrate with our fans and the media all across North America," said White. "We're going to cities that held historic UFC events and to locations we hope to bring the Octagon to soon."
Though it didn't come easily, Cain Velasquez battered Junior dos Santos for five rounds last night to retain his heavyweight title. At the post-fight press conference, the champ gave his take on the fight, which was his third with the Brazilian.
"We were expecting a tougher Junior this time," said Velasquez. "Sometimes he beat me to the punch and sometimes I beat him. He was tougher on the takedowns this time, too."
Having now gone 2-1 against dos Santos, Velasquez doesn't anticipate meeting him in the cage again anytime soon.
"I think it'll be done for a while," he said. "Maybe five years down the line, we'll fight again, but not right now."
Dos Santos eventually succumbed to Velasquez's punishment in the fifth round, but he only lasted that long due to incredible heart. UFC president Dana White said at the press conference that he wished the fight actually would've been stopped earlier out of concern for dos Santos' health.
"I think we've learned that Junior Dos Santos has the most unbelievable chin and heart I've ever seen," said White. "I think that fight should have been stopped in the third round. I believe the two best heavyweights in the world are Cain and Junior."
